What is prenatal Pilates and how is it different than prenatal yoga?
While Prenatal Pilates and prenatal yoga both help to increase flexibility, decrease low back pain and stress, Prenatal Pilates adds a strengthening and stabilizing component that is needed to stay healthy, pain free and prepared for labor and postpartum. The magic of Pilates is in the springs! Pilates apparatus tension is spring loaded and easily adapted to accommodate mama’s needs and growing belly safely throughout pregnancy.
Can I practice Pilates during pregnancy if I’ve never tried it before?
Absolutely! We ask that your get cleared by your doctor or midwife at the start of your practice and the beginning of each trimester.
What if I already have a diastasis, is it still safe?
Yes! In fact, one of the best things you can do is to learn safe breathing, core engagement and everyday movements to help encourage the affected muscles to come back together.
I have heard that ab work is unsafe for pregnant women- how is this different?
Only half true. In prenatal Pilates we will focus on your deep core and secondary stabilizing muscles. This is not only safe, but ideal to help keep your back & pelvis feeling strong and supported as baby grows.
I have gestational diabetes, will Pilates help?
Yes! One of the recommendations in working with gestational diabetes is daily exercise to help keep glucose levels within a normal range along with dietary adjustments.
